I've lived in the city, the suburbs and the country. I hated the city. Too much concrete, not enough green. The country has some nice aspects, like lots of green (though here things turn depressingly brown and gray during the winter) and the freedom to go outside naked if you want, but it sucks to have to drive 20 miles to get to a major supermarket and the neighbors are so far away I know only one of them by name.
For me the suburbs are ideal. Enough green to counteract all the houses, close enough to stores and stuff that you don't mind driving to the market just to buy a gallon of milk, and close enough to your neighbors that you know who they are but not so close you hear every word they say in their own home.
