The world could use anthropomorphic rabbits.

Bunnies are the answer to everything.

Work it

Today was my first day of work in entirely too long.  It was supposed to be only a single day, working as an independent contractor doing a PC refresh for a local American Cancer Society office.  It was also supposed to be very simple: unbox and boot the new computers, let the automated Sysprep tool configure them, plug it into the old computer, run a utility to copy the data, set up Lotus Notes, install the new computer at the user's desk, then box up the old machines.  Simple, right?

Of course not.

I got to the office at 7:30.  The new computers weren't there.

The site contact called the PC distributor, and was told the computers would arrive by 9:30.

9:30 came around, but nothing had arrived.

Called again, was told 10:30.

10:30 came and went, and nothing.

Then we were told 11:30.

And again, nothing.

The site contact noted that the other materials had arrived via UPS, who'd previously shown up at 2:30.

So I waited...  FedEx driver dropped off a small package....  UPS driver pulled up out front, but went into another office with a small package then left....

The project manager told me to remain on site until the office closed at 5:00, then I could go home.  So I waited some more....

At 4:15 some freight company I'd never heard of finally showed up with the equipment.  They didn't know there was supposed to be a rush on it.

I was able to get 4 machines unboxed and the Sysprep started and 4 old machines set up ready for the data transfer, all in less than 45 minutes.

So basically I got paid to sit around on my ass for 8 hours, and I get to go in again tomorrow to do the actual work, so I get paid double for a simple one-shot temp job.  Yay.  Too bad I won't get paid until after my credit card bill is due.

Sign you've been out of work for too long:  you write IBM as the manufacturer for a bunch of Thinkpads.
