You know it's cold when I have to get up in the middle of the night and throw a second blanket on the bed....

According to my weather station, it got down to 39F outside this morning. The less technologically advanced thermometer in my bedroom read 55F when I got up.

Fortunately my car has remote start, so I was able to get it heated up some before heading out into the uninsulated garage.

Then when I got to work, it was about 60F inside, since the HVAC was turned off over the long weekend, except for my office, where it was a "toasty" 66F.

I had the thermostat set to 69 in my house, but some areas felt like it was 6.9..

Don't you think that buying a light sweater would be a lot cheaper than the gasoline that you'd burn remote starting your car all winter? 39F isn't even cold yet!

I always let the engine warm up for 30 seconds to a minute at a minimum when it's cold. With the remote start, I can spend that minute someplace warmer. It only takes a few minutes to start getting warm air from the hearter.

I should install an electric engine block heater, but even if I had one, I doubt I'd bother with hooking it up every evening then having to stow the cables again every morning.

No, 39°F is great. That's when the ticks, mosquitoes, etc, go dormant.
