Summer and Lightning

captpackratI was startled awake this morning by a loud crash outside. I was a bit worried because my car was parked at the end of the driveway in front of my PODS container.
As I started to run to the front window, I head another crash. This rather confused me, as this is a dead-end street with very little traffic, so how could there be two accidents in a row?
I got to the window, but the streets were clear, so what the heck? Then it happened again, a temendous BOOOM, and I realized it was a thunderstorm, very nearby. Thunderstorms are not unheard of in San Diego in the summer, but they normally occur in the mountains and almost always in the evening or late at night, never in the morning. I've never seen a storm like this and I've lived here for 15 years..
