Doesn't anyone care anymore?

Doesn't anyone care about their cars anymore? I regularly see people driving brand new cars 80-90 MPH on the freeway (you should never drive a new car over 50 during the break-in period). I've had so many people slam their car doors into mine that I now take up two spaces when I park. Despite that, I've still had someone hit my bumper at least twice in the past few weeks (no damage, fortunately)

Just today at the gas station, I saw a woman throw her door open, slamming it into a concrete post. She didn't flinch, she didn't stop to check the damage, she didn't even seem to acknowledge what she'd done, she just went on with filling her gas tank as if smashing up her car was an everyday occurance for her.

Is everyone just incredibly stupid now, or do people just not care about anyone or anything but themselves?

mostly it seems......myself very much being the exception. my first car was an antique volvo (1968 P1800 fastback) that I dragged from a junkyard and rebuilt, all with my own money. I owned several more cars after that that were all 10+ years old, and never sold them for less than I originally paid. I'm currently doing an inside-out race modification to my 97 Miata, which I have owned since new....it looks and runs better than the day it left the dealership. I also currently have a 95 Mercury Cougar, with 90000 miles, still runs like new, no dents, and everything still works.
I think those of us who suffered to buy and/or build our cars in the first place value them much more.

Worse then people not caring for their own property is them disregarding others' I suppose.

I personally drive a (rather non-cherry) twenty year old car not because I can't afford a better one, but because I don't want to deal with the stress when someone carelessly (or maliciously) messes up something I've invested real money or emotion in. It's just not worth it to me. Feh.

Scrapes and dents happen. I backed over a large rock once and dented the bumper. I guess I should have been more careful but seeing as how I couldn't do anything about it after the fact, I just shrugged and drove away. While it may not be apparent to an observer, the woman probably made a mental note to watch out for concrete posts.
