captpackrat: (Bush Miserable Failure)

It was 5 years ago today that Bush proudly declared "Mission Accomplished in Iraq".

Since then, over 4000 American soldiers have been killed and nearly 30,000 wounded (and this doesn't account for the psychological effects that may plague combat veterans for decades).  At least 90,000 Iraqi civilians have lost their lives (some sources estimate as many as one million Iraqi deaths); the number of Iraqi wounded or left homeless is unknown but likely well into the millions.  The current estimates are that the war in Iraq will cost at least three trillion dollars; that's about $10,000 out of the pocket of every single American.

Good job, Commander-In-Chief George W. Bush!

Keep in mind one thing:

A lot of people that are claiming about the cost of the war are lumping in together all the things that are in operation...but you have to remember that they're not continually buying a brand new plane every year, or a new Hummer, or a new Battleship to put in the war...but a lot of people are counting them like they are. When you calculate so that everything that is currently in operation has already been paid for and thusly does not count the following year, the cost is actually a -lot- lower, but it's still high...but that's what war does.

But a lot of people would have you think that they're buying new planes, boats, and other expensive things in addition to the actual annual costs like food and deploymentables every year...it's skewed.

I think the three trillion figure (or 10 trillion, depending on who's doing the projecting) comes primarily from the projected cost of reconstructing Iraq. Now, to put this entire discussion into a much more proper perspective, remember that this was billed the "War on Terror." The intent was to go after a group of fanatical nuts numbering maybe just a couple thousand and Bush has thus far spent nearly a trillion dollars to do so. What has he accomplished? Creating MORE terror. Doing nothing at all would've been more successful. We almost need to create another word to describe the magnitude of stupid that went into this.
