...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH
TUESDAY AFTERNOON...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN OMAHA/VALLEY HAS ISSUED A WINTER
STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH
TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

THE FIRST MAJOR WINTER STORM OF THE SEASON IS EXPECTED TO IMPACT
THE AREA MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY AS A STRONG AREA OF LOW PRESSURE
MOVES FROM OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE TOWARD THE MID MISSISSIPPI RIVER
VALLEY.

RAIN IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP MONDAY AFTERNOON...BUT QUICKLY CHANGE
TO SNOW EARLY MONDAY EVENING AND CONTINUE THROUGH AT LEAST MIDDAY
TUESDAY. IN COMBINATION WITH THE SNOW...NORTHERLY WINDS ARE
EXPECTED TO INCREASE TO 25 TO 35 MPH...WITH GUSTS UP TO 40 MPH AT
TIMES. THIS WILL CREATE AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW WITH A SIGNIFICANT
IMPACT ON TRAVEL ACROSS THE REGION.

PRELIMINARY INDICATIONS SUGGEST THAT 3 TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW IS LIKELY
BEFORE THE SNOW TAPERS OFF LATER ON TUESDAY. WHILE THE FORECAST AMOUNT
OF SNOW IS NOT EXCESSIVE...WHEN COMBINED WITH THE VERY STRONG WINDS...
NEAR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS COULD OCCUR AT TIMES...ESPECIALLY IN RURAL
LOCATIONS. DRIFTING OF SNOW IS ALSO POSSIBLE.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.
CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

They were just talking about that on the news...apparently, we might only get a 1 - 2 inch snow here in NE while IA will get the most (4 - 6 or so).

Apparently, NWS jumped the gun on this and called it early due to the previous radar forecast where as more recent radar shows that we probably won't get that much.

What gets me is MY school never cancels, but my kids school ALWAYS does.

Not looking forward to this -- I wish it would hold off until after finals. :(

Don't feel bad. D: Omaha Public rarely EVER closes... even if they seriously should.

That is an average stowstorm for us!

3-6 inches may delay/early dismiss or cancel school, cancel some rec activites, but most of us still have a normal day of work.
