Earth Hour

Total dud.

I just stepped outside.  The sky to the north is a sickly orange, same as usual.  The neighbor's houses that I can see from here all have their lights on.

I guess a lot of people didn't get the memo.

We had a power outage from 6:45 to 7:30pm today. So we were very unwilling participants.

Otherwise I find earth hour idiotic. Especially those people that light candles and emit even more carbon than using lightbulbs, while thinking they are somehow making a difference.

My computer monitors give off enough light I didn't really need the lights on. I think Earth Hour would work better if they asked for turning off more than just the lights.

Here they said lights and any unnecessary appliances, so I guess it depends which message you got.

Most of the advertising for Earth Hour here was actually TV commercials for an automobile insurance company (Esurance), they mostly just talked about turning out the lights.

Of course, you should be doing that anyway.
But otherwise, people just put things off for an hour, instead..
(Or then wasted power going and recharging things they had running on battery power)
