I once did 123 MPH (198 KPH) on I-15 in my Caprice (speed verified by GPS).  And I didn't even reach the top end, I could have gone faster.  (I was in a fairly remote area, 8 lanes wide with a large median and good shoulders, very little traffic and a good line of sight, so it wasn't totally reckless.)

I'd like to find out just how fast my car could go, but I don't think I'll be trying it on the freeway again.  I'd like to go to Muroc or Bonneville or someplace long and flat and just put the pedal to the metal.

I don't think I've gotten a car past 115 mph, and that was my '67 LTD. Got a bit hairy as it was a four lane, I-95, and there were other cars about.

My bike, on the other hand- preface by calling me an ass: I buried the speedometer on my Sportster until the engine was breaking down... duh, it had a little peg at 80 mph to discourage that type of behavior. I have no idea how fast it went and never even glanced at the tach. Shook me up, though :o)

Hehe. I did 145mph in my old 1973 Jaguar. I don't remember whether that was before or after the front subframe broke from fatigue. Lucky it didn't happen at the same time! I also hit that same speed in one of my Audis. Both cars were more than happy to cruise along at that speed. Rock steady :-)

Eee, I'm a light-weight. I once got up to 102 MPH in a very remote area, and the car felt like it would have topped out around 115. But the thought occurred that if my car broke down it was 20 miles between houses to get help.

I got my '97 Buick up to 109mph on US-50 in middle-of-nowhere Nevada once back in 2008. It wouldn't go past that though, as I think it has some sort of speed limiter. It didn't feel like it would have been able to get going much faster though anyway.
