Simply unique, indeed.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.  At least at Costco.

You're hired!  You're fired!

U-turn fail.  It might not be immediately obvious, but the front of the trailer is sitting on the roadway.

Pony pulls the wagon or it gets the hose again!

I had to explain to my roommate why it was absurd that a pegasus pony would be pulling a wagon.  I've succumbed to the brony side.

So, for my convenience, instead of putting the package outside the gate, or even, heaven forbid, getting out of his car, walking 2 feet to the button and ringing the bell, the mail carrier decided to return the package to the post office 15 minutes away?  And I can't go get it until tomorrow?  Gee, thanks!

I preordered a copy of Scribblenauts and Amazon shipped it last week via extra-slow snail mail.  I kept visiting their site to track the package, and it finally said that it had arrived at the local post office this morning.

So I get in my car and drive allllllll the way over there (it's about 15 minutes away), but my box was empty.  I wait in line for about 5 minutes and finally get to the front.  I ask about my package.  Yes, they have it.  It came in too late for them to put it in my box.  And no, they can't just give it to me, I have to wait until tomorrow.

EVEN THOUGH THE PACKAGE IS RIGHT FREAKING THERE!

So I'm going to have to drive a half-hour round trip again to pick up the package that's right there on the counter.   Augh!  If the Postal Service is that rigid, no wonder they're losing money.

As if that wasn't enough of a kick in the teeth, I just missed the barber and he wouldn't be back for 3 hours AND the Dairy Queen clone in town is closed on Tuesdays.  So it really was a totally wasted trip.

First class postage is going up again, one extra penny May 12th for a total of 42¢.  If you buy some Forever stamps before that date, you'll be able to buy them at the 41¢ rate and they'll still be valid for First class.  That's a profit of 1 penny for each stamp you buy, or 2.4%  That's better than most banks.

Of course, it's not really much of a profit unless you use a lot of stamps, since there's really no way to convert stamps back into cash, but if you do, you've got 3 months to stock up!

About 3 or 4 years ago, I bought a roll of one hundred 37¢ stamps.  By 2006, I had not yet even opened the roll when they raised postal rates to 39¢, so I had to buy one hundred 2¢ stamps to make up the difference.  When they changed the rates again last year, I still had about 1/4 of the stamps remaining, so I had to buy a bunch more 2¢ stamps.

After having to affix 3 stamps to every letter I mailed for the past 7 or 8 months, I finally ran out of 37¢ stamps.

I think I'll stick to Forever stamps from now on.

The US Postal Service recently increased postage rates from 37 cents to 39. They did this with apparently little fanfare. I knew the change was coming "in early 2006", but I never heard any announcement about a specific date, not even at the post office itself! Apparently it was a couple weeks ago, and I'd mailed out several bills since then, all with 37 cent stamps. They haven't been returned, though, and it appears the checks have been cashed, so I can only assume they have some kind of grace period.

I have an entire roll of one hundred 37 cent stamps. So, I've been trying to buy one hundred 2 cent stamps. But the post office has been completely out of 2 cent stamps every time I've gone in there. How could they run out? Certainly they should have known they'd need a buttload of "upgrade" stamps.

Saturday I thought I'd just buy two hundred 1 cent stamps, but the line at the post office was out the door, which means a wait of at least 40 minutes, something you normally only see at Christmas or Tax time. No way in hell I'm waiting that long to buy $2 worth of stamps. I'll make due with the stamps I have, even if I have to get creative like using tons of 5 and 1 cent stamps

Has the US Postal Service grown that utterly incompetent that they completely flubbed the price hike? Or is this deliberate, in an attempt to get people to use more postage than necessary? Maybe they're hoping people will use 3 cent stamps leftover from the last postage hike, thus giving them an extra penny? One penny times millions of letters is a lot of money. The only place that seems to have the stamps is the USPS web site, and they charge "shipping and handling". Why is the Postal Service charging for shipping on their own products?

They say, "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity", but I think there is a corollary to that, "Never attribute to stupidity that which can be adequately explained by greed."
