I think I got all the clubs I'll be needing for a while. I went to Scheel's today and discovered they sell used clubs, most of which are in near-new condition, for as little as $5! I picked up a 6 iron, a 9 iron, a chipper, a 5 wood and a lob wedge. With the driver, 3 wood, 4 hybrid iron, sand wedge and putter that brings me to a total of 10 clubs. You're allowed to have 14 maximum, so I might get a few more irons in the future.
Mmmm... Open faced club sand wedge....
Oct. 4th, 2008 05:27 pmWal*Mart still has a sale on golf clubs, apparently. I picked up an Intech XGen titanium driver ($15), a Wilson T7 titanium #3 wood ($25), an Intech XGen stainless #4 hybrid iron ($15, I may return it for a #5) and a John Daly Tour sand wedge ($20). I also picked up a bag of used balls, $19 for 48.
I still need some another iron, probably 7 or 8 and perhaps a pitching wedge. There's little point in buying a whole set of 1-9 irons since I have no clue as to the nuances of each club yet. I suppose I need to pick up some kind of golf bag, since walking around the course with your clubs tied together with a bungee cord might be a bit redneck.
I tried using the driver to hit some tennis balls to the dogs, but my roommate wandered into my line of fire (I was keeping my eye on the ball), and I nailed him in the shin hard enough to leave a welt. I switched to the sand wedge after that. Worked better anyway, since the grass here is more like rough than any kind of fairway. I can forget about putting outside.

I'm kinda thinking of taking up golf, but I'm going to try to do so on the cheap. I picked up a $10 putter at Wal*Mart today, and I'm looking to buy a cheap driver, 5 iron, and sand wedge. Maybe a fairway wood. But they've got to be cheap.
The only balls Wal*Mart had that weren't $20 a box were a box of 6 yellow balls from Wilson... Yellow because they've got Spongebob Squarepants on them.
Yeah, that'll look great on the golf course....

I think they made Madden 09 a bit too easy.
6 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, 14 sacks, a safety, 1 kickoff returned for a TD and I made 16 out of 20 two-point conversions.
And I was only playing 5 minute quarters.
I didn't quite beat the score in Georgia Tech vs. Cumberland College in 1916, but it was close.
