Jolted awake this morning. Magnitude 5.6 (preliminary) near Anza, CA, less than 50 miles away. It was a very short event; I wasn't even sure it had been an earthquake until I turned on the radio.

If you live in Southern California, fill out the USGS Did You Feel It? form, even if you didn't feel anything.

It was definitely more powerful here, vene felt something moments before it hit. Sudden powerful jolt with at least 10-12 seconds of shaking that faded.

Gonna go fill out the report right now. I always do. Thanks for reminding us. I'm always interested in knowing how strong it was felt by the rest of the region. : ]

I was asleep at the time. The initial jolt was enough to wake me up, and I heard stuff rattling, but it was over so quickly I didn't really have enough time to wake up enough to realize what was going on. I had to turn on the radio to confirm that it was actually a quake and not sonic boom/car accident/Pendelton firing range/etc.

After filling out the form, it gave a local Mercalli intensity of III. There are dozens of picture frames all over the house, none of which were knocked askew.
